The answers could be many. A video game can be framed, albeit trivially, as a mere form of entertainment, thus stereotyping all that this term hides behind it.
Until a few years ago, we could define a videogame as a new form of entertainment, but as of today, after the evolution of this world, it is fair to define a videogame as transmedia entertainment, capable of fusing together the noblest of arts, creating a marriage of emotions. All this fits perfectly in one of the titles that the previous console generation was able to generate. We are talking, of course, about Assassin's Creed, one of the most acclaimed video game sagas of the past decade, the brainchild of the well-known software house Ubisoft.
Assassin's Creed cannot therefore be framed only as digital entertainment. Assassin's Creed is so much more!
Assassin's Creed is transmedia, because,moving through different types of media, it contributes new and distinct information to the user experience at each step .
It is visual art, thanks not only to the always state-of-the-art graphics, but also to the faithful reconstructions in minute detail of historic buildings of important artistic and cultural significance in which the events take place
It is music, thanks to the soundtracks that have made fans feel strong emotions over the years; music entrusted always to outstanding musicians.
It is philosophy, asking players questions and concepts to process in depth.
It is either literature, thanks to the annual transposition of the titles into novel format, or comic books, with new adventures capable of getting even those who do not like video games hooked on the saga.
But Assassin's Creed is also collecting.
Since its beginnings, the Ubisoft saga has been able to open up a world around itself, appreciated today by many fans, thanks not only to splendid limited editions or fantastic reproductions of the main characters known over the years, but also thanks to varied merchandising (books, gadgets, clothing items and so on).
